Police are continuing investigations into a serious wounding incident at Exeter and a fatal two-vehicle crash at Legana on Friday afternoon.
Detective Inspector Stuart Greenwood said emergency services were called to a residential property on Main Road, Exeter about 4.30pm, following reports a woman had sustained multiple serious stab wounds.
“Our initial investigations indicate the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman,” he said.
“A crime scene was declared at the address and investigators are continuing to conduct inquiries into the incident.”
“The woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.”
Detective Inspector Greenwood said police believe the incident is linked to a fatal crash on the West Tamar Highway a short time later.
“We understand the man involved in the Exeter incident left the address in a blue Skoda and was subsequently involved in a head-on collision with a blue Nissan Navara on the West Tamar Highway at Legana shortly before 4.40pm,” he said.
“Emergency services attended the crash, and the man, a 42-year-old from Western Australia, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
“The sole occupant of the Nissan Navara, a woman in her 30s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. She is believed to be in a serious condition.”
“Investigators from multiple specialist areas are continuing to conduct inquiries, and our thoughts are with the injured women, their loved ones and everyone affected by these distressing events.”
