Police Lay Charges After ATM Cash Transport Thefts

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men as part of an investigation into the alleged theft of nearly half a million dollars believed to have occurred during the transport of cash to and from ATMs.

The men were arrested early yesterday morning following the execution of two warrants in Mickleham and Dallas.

Detectives launched an investigation into the alleged thefts last week after the matter was reported to police.

Officers have been told of more than 10 alleged incidents where a discrepancy in cash following an ATM run has been identified, between April and July.

The incidents are alleged to involve runs to and from ATMs in Melbourne, Tarneit, Keilor Downs, Delahey, Craigieburn, Sandringham, South Melbourne, Clifton Hill, Essendon, Pascoe Vale and Mill Park to the value of nearly half a million dollars.

A 25-year-old from Dallas and a 44-year-old from Mickleham were both charged with theft (x11).

They were both remanded in custody and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
