Police lay charges after fatal crash near Griffith

A man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash in the state’s Riverina region.

About 3.30pm on Monday 4 September 2023, emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway in Darlington Point – about 30km south of Griffith – after reports of a collision involving a truck and car.

The driver of the sedan, a 24-year-old man, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 38-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Griffith Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District established a crime scene as the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, a 38-year-old man was arrested at Wagga Wagga Police Station, yesterday (Friday 15 September 2023), where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 1 November 2023.

The man’s licence was also suspended.
