Police lay charges after man stabbed in Stanmore

A man will face court today after allegedly stabbing another man in Stanmore yesterday.

Just after 1am on Sunday (19 May 2019), police were called to a home on Stanmore Road, after reports of an altercation.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and located a 28-year-old man with stab wounds to his neck and back, before arresting a 24-year-old man at the scene.

The older man was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He has since undergone surgery and remains in a stable condition.

The younger man was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment before returning to Newtown Police Station.

He has been charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Monday 20 May 2019).

The pair are believed to be known to each other.
