Police Lay Charges After Shooting In Whittington

Armed Crime Squad detectives have now charged three men following a shooting in Whittington in July.

It is alleged the victim was shot during an altercation at a residential property on Aldrin Court in Whittington about 10.30pm on Friday, 31 July.

The victim, a 27-year-old Lara man, subsequently attended a Geelong hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound shortly after 10pm the following day.

Detectives from Armed Crime Squad, with assistance from Geelong and Warrnambool Crime Investigation Units and the Fugitive Squad, commenced an extensive investigation into the incident.

On Monday 31 August, an 18-year-old Macarthur man was arrested in the Warrnambool CBD.

A 31-year-old Corio man was arrested in Corio on Wednesday, 12 August and a 29-year-old man of no fixed place of address was arrested in Whittington on 4 August.

All three men have been charged with a range of offences including:

  • Armed robbery;
  • Intentionally cause injury;
  • Prohibited person possess a firearm;
  • Prohibited person use a firearm;
  • Possess firearm gen category handgun;
  • Use loaded firearm in non-public place with reckless disregard for safety;
  • Armed with firearm with criminal intent; and
  • Common law assault.

The trio has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 3 November.

Police have also seized a number of items including a firearm and ammunition.

Yesterday, police executed a warrant at a Macarthur residence as part of the investigation.

A 37-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were spoken to by investigators at the property and are expected to be charged on summons with hinder police.
