Police lay charges – Aggravated assault in Darwin 6 March

Northern Territory Police have charged a man over a serious domestic violence incident yesterday.

A couple was at Mindil Beach in the early hours of Saturday morning when the man allegedly began assaulting his partner, causing her serious injuries. He called for an ambulance before leaving the area. Paramedics transported the woman to Royal Darwin Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

The alleged offender was apprehended early on Sunday morning by the Dog Operations Unit.

The man has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Breach Domestic Violence Order
  • Choking
  • Serious harm

He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on at a later date.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said, “This is a great result and the detectives, general duties and dog operations unit did everything they could to put a violent family violence offender in jail and ensure the victim feels safe.”
