Police lay charges – Aggravated robbery – Durack

Northern Territory Police have charged a man with aggravated robbery following an incident in Durack on Saturday.

A 26-year-old woman had been walking on the street about 8am when approached by a man who grabbed her bags and propositioned her. She declined and was able to recover her bags. The offender then allegedly tried to steal her bags again and assaulted her, knocking her to the ground before absconding. Two witnesses gave chase and restrained the man until police arrived.

Territory Duty Superintendent Mark Malogorski said, “Palmerston General Duties members did a great job in investigating this matter and arresting a violent offender. A thank you to members of the public who assisted Police in apprehending the offender.

“We advise the public to always put their personal safety first when intervening in an incident or apprehending an offender.”

Police charged the 25-year-old man with Aggravated robbery.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on 7 March.
