Police lay charges – Attempted murder – Mataranka

Northern Territory Police have charged a 33-year-old man in relation to a serious assault in Mataranka.

During the early hours of yesterday morning, members located an injured woman on the side of the road. She was taken to Katherine District Hospital before being transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital due to her injuries.

The 33-year-old man was arrested later that morning. He has been charged with:

  • Attempt murder
  • Intentionally cause serious harm
  • Breach DVO
  • Armed with offensive weapon

The man has been remanded to appear before Katherine Local Court tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson said, “This was a horrific assault. Family violence has no place in our society and police urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact us on 131 444. Please quote reference number 9830700.”
