Police lay charges – Attempted unlawful entry – Pinelands

Northern Territory Police have charged a 28-year-old man after an attempted unlawful entry at a bottle shop in Pinelands on Sunday.

Members patrolling the area came across the group on the Stuart Highway just after 9pm, allegedly attempting to gain access through the staff entrance door.

Police approached in their vehicle and identified themselves to the group, when the offender ran towards them with a large pair of secateurs, causing the members to take evasive action and position the vehicle behind a large metal sign.

The man threw the secateurs, piercing the metal sign, before fleeing across the highway.

He was arrested and later charged with:

• Attempt unlawful entry – building

• Damage to property

• Assault a member of the police force x 2

• Endanger occupants of vehicle or vessels

• Carry ammunition without a permit

The man was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

Investigations are ongoing.
