Detectives from the Rapid Apprehension Squad (RAS) have charged five people with a total of 94 offences in relation to a series of aggravated commercial burglaries in the Cannington, Perth and Joondalup districts.
An investigation by RAS and District Detective Rapid High Harm Offender Response (RHHOR) teams identified multiple stolen vehicles and 58 linked offences committed between 25 December 2022 and 4 January 2023 – establishing Operation Monarch.
On 29 December, officers attached to the Operation responded to a burglary on Gochean Avenue in Bentley where a 16-year-old Maddington male was subsequently apprehended.
On 5 January – acting on intelligence – RAS safely located and apprehended an 18-year-old Broome man.
Later that day, with the assistance of Cannington detectives and the RHHOR team, a search warrant was executed resulting in the arrest of a 15-year-old Cable Beach male. Clothing worn by offenders along with stolen property was also located within the premises.
Further investigations identified the two outstanding suspects; both of whom had fled Perth and returned home to Broome. On 7 January, RAS – with the assistance of Broome police and detectives – effected the arrest of an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old male.
A 16-year-old Maddington male has been charged with:
- 6 x Stealing
- 5 x Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit
- 5 x Attempted Aggravated Home Burglary with Intent
- 2 x Stealing of a Motor Vehicle
- Home Burglary and Commit
- No authority to Drive (never held)
- Fail to Stop when directed by a Police Officer
He is next due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court on 2 February 2023.
An 18-year-old Broome man has been charged with:
- 7 x Stealing
- 5 x Stealing of a Motor Vehicle
- 5 x Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit
- 2 x Aggravated Burglary and Commit
- 2 x Aggravated Home Burglary with Intent
- 2 x Aggravated Burglary with Intent
He is next due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court on 13 January 2023.
A 15-year-old Cable Beach male has been charged with:
- 7 x Stealing
- 5 x Stealing of a Motor Vehicle
- 5 x Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit
- 2 x Aggravated Burglary and Commit
- 2 x Aggravated Home Burglary with Intent
- 2 x Aggravated Burglary with Intent
He is next due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court on 20 January 2023.
An 18-year-old Broome man has been charged with:

- 3 x Stealing of a Motor Vehicle
- Aggravated Burglary with intent
He is next due to appear in the Broome Magistrate’s Court on 23 January 2023.
A 14-year-old Broome male has been charged with:
- 5 x Aggravated Burglary and Commit
- 4 x Stealing
- 3 x Stealing of a Motor Vehicle
- Aggravated Burglary with Intent
- Criminal Damage
He is next due to appear in the Broome Children’s Court on 20 January 2023.
