Police lay charges over armed robbery in Paddington

A man and woman will face court today charged following an alleged armed robbery at Paddington earlier this week.

About 4.30pm on Monday (8 July 2019), police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a fashion store on Oxford Street.

A man is alleged to have entered the shop and threatened staff with a firearm before fleeing with cash and goods.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

As part of inquiries, a man and woman were recognised by Kings Cross detectives as they walked through Darlinghurst yesterday (Tuesday 9 July 2019).

The couple, a 52-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, were arrested and taken to Kings Cross Police Station.

The man was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, receive/dispose stolen property, and breach of bail.

The woman was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon (accessory after the fact), wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty, receive/dispose stolen property, and an outstanding warrant.

Police will allege in court the woman provided misleading information at the crime scene, assisting the man to get away.
