Police lay charges over carjacking in Casula

A man has been charged over the alleged carjacking of an elderly couple in Sydney’s south-west.

About 12pm on Tuesday 13 December 2022, police will allege a man asked an elderly couple for a lift after helping them with their groceries at a shopping centre in Casula.

While in the car, the 81-year-old woman driving the car noticed the man steal her phone from her handbag, before pulling over on Kurrajong Road, Casula, and asking him to leave.

The man exited the car, before allegedly assaulting the woman and getting back in the driver’s seat; driving with the 90-year-old man still in the car.

A short time later, the man allegedly assaulted the 90-year-old man before pushing him out of the vehicle on Grimson Road, Liverpool, and driving from the scene.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries and a public appeal, investigators arrested a 53-year-old man in Wyong about 8am today (Friday 30 December 2022).

He was taken to Wyong Police Station, where he was charged with larceny, unlawfully take/drive motor vehicle with person in it, take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage, and aggravated robbery.

The Bankstown man was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 31 December 2022).
