Police lay charges over hit and run in Cronulla

A man has been charged after allegedly driving over a man in Sydney’s south today.

Just after midnight (Sunday 19 January 2020), emergency services were called to outside a home in Flinders Road, Cronulla, following reports a man had been struck by a Mitsubishi Pajero 4WD.

On arrival, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command located a 46-year-old man, suffering injuries to his arms and torso. He was taken to Sutherland Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established with officers commencing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the 4WD was located and seized for forensic examination outside a home on Toronto Parade, Sutherland, about 3.30am today.

The driver, a 50-year-old man, was arrested at the property and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

Police will allege in court that the man struck the 46-year-old man’s vehicle outside the Cronulla home before deliberately running him over.

The 50-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
