Police lay charges over property offences in Alice Springs 2 September

Northern Territory Police have charged a 21-year-old man in relation to a number of property and traffic offences committed in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek last week.

At around 3:40am on 25 August, the man allegedly unlawfully entered and stole property from a business on Gap Road.

Police further allege the man stole a vehicle from a property at South Terrace in Alice Springs on 27 August 2021.

On 1 September 2021, the stolen vehicle was spotted in Tennant Creek. Officers engaged the vehicle in a pursuit and located it abandoned a short time later. The male was arrested after a foot pursuit.

Strike Force Viper investigators later charged the man with:

  • Unlawful entry – building
  • Damage to property
  • Stealing
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle

He was further charged with:

  • Drive unlicensed
  • Driving vehicle manner dangerous – pursuit
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm

For the offences committed in Tennant Creek.

He was remanded to appear before Alice Springs Local Court on 23 of September 2021.

Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said, “Strike Force Viper investigators were able to link the offending on Gap Road with that of the stolen vehicle. There is no excuse for this kind of pointless and dangerous behaviour. We will continue to ensure that property offenders such as this are put before the courts.”
