Police lay drug trafficking charge at Mount Isa

Officers from the Mount Isa Tactical Crime Squad, as part of an on-going drug operation, arrested and charged a Parkside man with 55 offences in relation to the distribution of illicit drugs including MDMA/ecstasy and cannabis.

The 19-year-old was arrested on February 26 after police executed a search warrant at a Mount Isa address where they allegedly located dangerous drug, drug utensils and drug paraphernalia.

He has been charged with one count of trafficking, 41 counts of supplying a dangerous drug and several other drug related offences relating to the alleged possession of dangerous drug, drug utensils and property suspected as having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence. He is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on March 24.

Sergeant Joel Bryant, Officer in Charge of the Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad said his team remain focused and committed to dismantling drug supply within the local community.

“We appreciate the ongoing assistance and support of our community who provide information to disrupt these illicit syndicates and I encourage more people to come forward” he said.

The operation is on-going and police investigations are continuing.
