Police lay firearm charges at West End

Police have charged a man with multiple offences following an incident in West End yesterday afternoon.

Around 4.35pm on Thursday, police intercepted a vehicle at a petrol station on Ingham Road with allegedly stolen registration plate.

It will be further alleged, the driver attempted to flee in the vehicle and collided with a parked car. The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was detained and arrested.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with three counts of possessing firearms, possess explosives (ammunition), possessing a knife, possessing drugs, possessing drug utensils, stealing, possessing property suspect of being stolen, wilful damage, evading police, dangerous operation of a vehicle while affected, unlicensed driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and obstructing police.

Has been denied police bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrate Court today (January 15).
