Police lay robbery with violence charges at Aspley

Carseldine Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have charged a man following investigations into a robbery with violence this afternoon.

Just after midday Friday May 13, police will allege a man was behaving suspiciously in the gaming lounge and foyer of a licenced premises on Kirby Road, Aspley, before secreting himself in a nearby store room.

It will be further alleged the man sprang upon a 72-year-old female employee who entered the store room, punching her several times in the face and attempting to strangle her with her jumper. Following a short struggle, the man fled on foot after stealing the contents of the woman’s handbag.

The woman raised the alarm with other employees coming to her aid. She was treated for serious facial injuries and transported to hospital where she is still recovering.

Detectives located a 31-year-old Kingaroy man at a nearby Aspley address around 1.30pm today, taking him into custody. Police will further allege he obstructed officers during the arrest.

The man was denied police bail and was charged with one count each of robbery with personal violence, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, torture and obstruct police. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow Saturday May 14.
