Police make arrest after assault in Australind

Bunbury Detectives have charged a man after he allegedly assaulted a man known to him at home in Australind.

It is alleged around 7.20pm last night, Sunday 2 February 2020, the man drove to a home in Denebola Crescent and armed with an aluminium baseball bat entered the premises.

The man allegedly threatened a female occupant and she locked herself in a bathroom whilst the man continued going through the house.

It is further alleged the man approached the male victim who was sleeping and struck him with the baseball bat multiple times to the head and face causing severe swelling to the brain of the victim and a fractured skull.

It is also alleged as the man left the home on foot he stole a woman’s purse.

The female occupant of the home was able to call emergency services and the victim, a man in his 30s, was conveyed to Bunbury Hospital before being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital with serious head injuries.

Police apprehended the man about 30 minutes later walking along Eaton Drive.

The 38-year-old man from Glen Iris has been charged with:-

• With Intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm, does Grievous Bodily Harm;

• Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit; and

• Stealing.

He is due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court today, 3 February 2020.
