Police make arrest after man drove into camera operator’s vehicle

Traffic Enforcement Group One officers have charged a 39-year-old man from Armadale with several offences after an incident on 16 October 2019.

It is alleged around 2.15pm, the man was driving a white Ford Courier Utility, in a north westerly direction along Discovery Drive in Thornlie when he intentionally mounted the curb, drove along the footpath and directly into a parked Police vehicle that was conducting speed detection duties.

It is also alleged after the crash the man reversed his vehicle, conducted a U-turn and drove off in a south easterly direction along Discovery Drive before turning out of sight.

It will further alleged at around 3.05pm, the man was stopped by Police for speeding on Rowley Road in Banjup. The vehicle he was driving had no number plates displayed.

It is alleged the man became aggressive and abusive when officers informed him his vehicle was being impounded due to him driving under suspension and he was arrested.

The man has been charged with:

• Reckless Driving in a Confiscation Zone;

• Criminal Damage or Destruction of Property;

• Driver Fail to Stop – Property Damaged;

• Driver Fail to Report an Incident in which property was Damaged;

• Exceed Speed Limit between 10 – 19km/h;

• Disorderly Behaviour in a Public Place;

• Obstructing Police Officers; and

• 2 x No Authority to Drive.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, 24 October 2019.
