Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery and attempted armed robbery in St Kilda yesterday.
Police were called to reports of an armed robbery at a service station on Barkly Street just after 1pm on 9 January.
It is alleged a man entered the business, produced a syringe and demanded money from two staff members.
He left on foot with a quantity of cash before approaching a man walking his dog on Greeves Street.
He again allegedly produced a syringe and demanded the man hand over his money, but the victim managed to run to safety and was not injured.
Police quickly responded and arrested a 35-year-old Merricks Beach man on Grey Street.
He was later charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, theft, assault with a weapon, unlawful assault, deal property suspected proceeds of crime, possess dangerous article and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.
He faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last night and was further remanded until 5 March.
