Police make arrest after stealing incident in Carlisle

Kensington Police have charged a woman after an incident in Carlisle on Wednesday, 3 May 2023.

About 8am, a 57-year-old woman was involved in a traffic crash on the corner of Harris and Briggs Streets. The woman was distressed and in a state of shock after the crash and was further traumatised by being taken advantage of and her credit cards being stolen.

It will be alleged the 32-year-old charged woman approached the victim to offer assistance and the victim gave the woman her phone to call emergency services on her behalf. The phone was in a wallet phone case which also contained credit cards and a Medicare card.

It is further alleged the offender left the scene prior to police arrival with the woman’s credit and Medicare cards.

Kensington Police commenced an investigation and located the woman’s Medicare card in a drain near the crash site. With assistance from information provided by members of the community, officers were able to identify the offender and take her into custody.

Officers wish to thank the community for their assistance. Information received from members of the public is important in any investigation.

The 32-year-old woman from Redcliffe has been charged with Stealing and is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 6 May 2023.
