Police make arrest – Aggravated assault and assault police in Alice Springs

A 19-year-old man who is alleged to have assaulted a woman and child in Alice Springs earlier this month, has been arrested and charged.

On Sunday 10 July police responded to a domestic disturbance in which a man struck a woman and child with a broom inside a home on Gap Road.

The woman and child suffered injuries as a result of the incident, and the man fled the area before police arrival.

The woman and child were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday 27 July, members of Strike Force Viper were conducting foot patrols of the Alice Springs CBD area where they located the 19-year-old man.

Officers approached the man and informed him he was under arrest in relation to the aggravated assault, when it is alleged the man struck out at the officer’s head and attempted to flee the area.

The man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with one count of Assault police and two counts of Aggravated assault.

He is scheduled to appear before the Alice Springs Local Court today.
