Police make arrest – Aggravated robbery at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police have arrested five youths in relation to an aggravated robbery in Tennant Creek last night.

At about 5pm, police received a report that an 84-year-old woman had been confronted by five unknown youths inside her residence.

It is alleged that the victim was restrained by one of the offenders while the group allegedly searched the property, before fleeing the scene.

While being restrained, the woman suffered minor injuries and was treated by St John Ambulance.

Police identified and located a number of offenders through CCTV and arrested them earlier this morning.

Three females, aged 15, 16 and 16, are expected to be charged with aggravated robbery later today.

Two male youths, aged 11, will be summoned at a later date.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said, “This was a cowardly act by the group, targeting an unsuspecting older woman inside her own home.

“The community have a right to feel safe within their homes and police will continue to prosecute anyone who chooses to behave in this manner.”
