Police make arrest for aggravated robbery in East Victoria Park

Cannington Detectives have charged a woman as a result of their investigation into an incident that occurred in East Victoria Park between 5.30pm and 6pm on Wednesday, 23 July 2019 in which an 80-year-old man was injured.

The 80-year-old victim parked his gold 2008 model Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback near rubbish bins located on Terminus Lane. He then started placing the bins along the kerb for collection.

It is alleged the woman got into his vehicle and as he grabbed at her in an attempt to stop her stealing his car, she accelerated heavily, causing the 80-year-old man to lose his balance, fall backwards and hit the ground.

The victim was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment to a laceration across his eyebrow which required stitches and significant abrasion and blister injuries to his right leg. It has since been established the victim sustained a fracture in his left leg and a fracture to a finger on his left hand. He will require plastic surgery for the injuries sustained to his head and leg.

As part of Cannington Detectives ongoing investigation, the woman was located around 5pm last night (29 July 2019), at a residence in East Victoria Park and taken into custody.

The 24-year-old woman from East Victoria Park has been charged with:-

• Aggravated Robbery;

• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly;

• Driver Failed to Stop and Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Bodily Harm; and

• Stealing.

She is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 30 July 2019.
