Police make arrest – Hooning/Assault police in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to hooning in Alice Springs overnight.

At 10:30pm, police received reports that a blue Holden Commodore was committing driving offences around the CBD, putting members of the public at risk.

The Drone Unit was deployed to track the vehicle before observing it come to a stop on Todd Street. Police arrested the 19-year-old driver, who assaulted one officer as he was being secured in a police vehicle.

The man is expected to be charged with:

  • Assault member of police force
  • Drive motor vehicle unlicensed
  • Drive in manner dangerous
  • Drive high range blood alcohol content

Superintendent Antony Deutrom said “This sort of dangerous behaviour puts everyone on the roads and footpaths at risk.

“Our members go to work each day to serve and protect the community, they don’t deserve to be assaulted for it. This man will now face court for his actions.

“Anyone who witnessed the vehicle driving dangerously is urged to contact police on 131 444. You can also make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference 10162852.”
