Northern Territory Police have arrested a 21-year-old male after unlawfully entering a mine site on Groote Eylandt yesterday.
At 4:45pm, police received reports of an armed male that had entered the mine site and was causing damage to multiple company vehicles and property.
The male threatened staff at the premises. The mine site went into emergency shut down before the offender was arrested without incident.
A sledgehammer was seized by local police and an investigation is currently underway.
The 21-year-old male has been charged with:
- Attempt aggravated burglary
- Aggravated assault
- Armed with offensive weapon
- Damage to property
He has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday 20 November 2023.
