Police make arrest – Police officer assaulted in Alice Springs

Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole has condemned the actions which saw an officer kicked in the head when responding to a domestic disturbance in Alice Springs overnight.

A 30-year-old police officer suffered a concussion after he was kicked in the head by a 38-year-old man, when responding to a domestic violence disturbance in Gillen around 11:30pm.

“To say this is absolutely disgusting behaviour is stating the obvious, said Assistant Commissioner Dole

“Officers responded to help the community and stop the cycle of domestic violence, but instead they themselves are viciously assaulted and then set upon by those who made the call for help.”

“We will absolutely be pursuing the charge of Assault a police officer on the offender.”

“This is a reminder that not only is this vile behaviour unacceptable, but that we not continue to accept this behaviour and you will be held accountable.”

The police officer regained consciousness and was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The offender was transported to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with Engage with conduct that contravenes DVO, Resist Police in execution of duty, Assault a member of the Police Force. He will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court today.
