Police make arrest – Property offences – Palmerston

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man for multiple offences in Palmerston yesterday.

Around 10:20pm, police received reports of a man driving a stolen motorcycle erratically at a property on Dillon Circuit, Gray.

Police attended and located a 20-year-old man, who was wanted for multiple property and domestic violence offences, riding the motorcycle.

The offender allegedly rammed a gate at the property, striking an officer and causing minor injuries, before crashing the bike and fleeing the scene on foot. Police pursued the man into nearby parkland before the offender allegedly assaulted another officer during the arrest, causing a large scratch to the officer’s face.

The 20-year-old remains in custody and is expected to be charged with multiple property, burglary and domestic violence related offences later today.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Christopher Humphries said “Thanks to the quick actions of attending officers a recidivist offender is now off the streets and soon to be before the courts.

“Thankfully the officers who were assaulted weren’t seriously injured. This arrest highlights the dangerous work police do everyday to protect the community.”

Police continue to urge the public to immediately contact police if you witness crime or anti-social behaviour on 131 444 or in an emergency to call Triple Zero.
