Police make arrest – Serious harm in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 21-year-old man following an unprovoked attack upon two women in Alice Springs this morning.

At 3:50am the two women, both aged 27-years-old attended a service station on Railway Terrace when a man followed one woman to her vehicle and allegedly assaulted her.

The man continued to assault the first woman before the second woman intervened, where it is alleged the man turned and began assaulting her, before leaving the scene.

Detective Constable First Class, Vanessa Heffernan said thankfully both women did not suffer life threatening injuries as a result of the attack.

“Both women were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment following what can only be described as a violent unprovoked assault. It is unbelievable the women did not suffer more significant injuries.”

Utilising CCTV footage, police identified and located the man who was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch House this morning.”

The man is expected to be charged later today.
