Police make arrest – Stolen Motor Vehicle – Berry Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested multiple people yesterday in relation to recent stolen motor vehicles.

At around 9:30am, police received information regarding three outstanding stolen motor vehicles being driven in the rural area.

Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit (DOU) teamed up to execute a coordinated approach to safely apprehend everyone involved and recover the vehicles.

Trident members located the first vehicle travelling outbound on Channel Island Road, before deploying tyre deflation devices however, the vehicle has continued driving despite both front tyres being deflated.

The vehicle continued driving south along Finn Road before all occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled into thick scrubland, heading towards Livingstone Road.

Patrol Dog (PD) Drax was deployed locating one offender hiding under pandanus, before recently graduated PD Daly, continued the search.

PD Daly and Dog Handler Senior Constable Houghagen tracked the remaining offenders through thick vegetation where Trident members awaited on the other side of the bushland.

Six people were arrested without incident and conveyed to Palmerston Watch House.

Trident members were able to gain information in relation to the remaining outstanding vehicles, which had been parked in bushland near Middle Arm Road.

Three male youths have been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act 2005.

Three males, aged 19, 18 and 17, were charged with aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle. The 19 and 17 year old were remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on 26 August. The 18 year old was bailed to appear on 12 September

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “This is fantastic work by our members, who have dedicated countless hours to locate these offenders.

“The relationship between Trident and Dog Operations is a valued relationship. We work hand in paw together, and the support provided between the two units is the definition of team work. Great job everyone!”
