Police make arrest – Threatening behaviour – Malak

Northern Territory Police acted swiftly this afternoon to apprehend an armed offender in Darwin’s northern suburbs.

At 12:43pm police were notified that a man armed with an edged weapon was threatening people at the Malak shops.

The Dog Operations Unit (DOU) attended within seven minutes with Patrol Dogs Drax and Wedge ready to deploy. Members identified a man armed with what appeared to be a blunt weapon. They commenced negotiations with the offender, who was soon taken into custody without incident.

Watch Commander, Senior Sergeant Joshua Cunningham said, “Police negotiations can be tricky, but the presence of both Police Patrol Dog Drax and Wedge resolved this matter quickly and in our favour.

“No one was injured as a result of this incident and the 29-year-old man is likely to be charged this afternoon.”
