Police Make Arrests – Fatal Crash In Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged two males in relation to a fatal crash in Alice Springs.

Major Crash detectives arrested two 18-year-old males, the driver and one of the passengers, respectively, yesterday following assistance from the community.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “This has been a difficult investigation for police with a distinct lack of information initially forthcoming to detectives.

“A young man was left to die on the road as everyone else in the stolen vehicle immediately fled without providing any assistance whatsoever.”

“Investigations remain ongoing, and the community of Alice Springs can be assured that police have identified everyone involved.”

“Pending further consultation with the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions, further arrests and prosecutions are expected to follow.”

The driver was charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Hit & Run Causing Death, and Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle. The passenger was charged with Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle. Both were refused bail and will appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 18 March 2024.

Anyone with any information is still urged to contact the police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference number NTP2400024119.
