Police make arrests – Property crimes in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested multiple offenders following a spate of incidents in Katherine recently.

Superintendent Craig Garland said, “Over four nights between 8 and 11 June, eight vehicles were stolen from four properties during unlawful entries at those premises. A further five businesses were also unlawfully entered.

“Eight people have now been arrested and charged in relation to these offences.”

The alleged offenders, aged between 14 and 19, have been charged with:

  • Unlawful entry of a dwelling at night
  • Unlawful entry of a building at night
  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Stealing
  • Trespass
  • Driving unlicenced
  • Armed with offensive weapon

A further six youths are to be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

“Detectives from Strike Force Cerberus are continuing to investigate these incidents and it is likely that there will be further offenders identified and prosecuted,” said Superintendent Garland.

“There is no excuse for this type of offending in our community or anywhere, it’s unacceptable.”
