Police make arrests – Ram Raid in Darwin City

Northern Territory Police have arrested 5 males after a ram raid in Darwin City earlier this morning.

Around 5:20am, police received reports that a Ford Ranger and a Hyundai i30 were stolen from a residence in Nightcliff and allegedly used in a ram raid at a business on Cavanagh Street. Unknown offenders have entered the premises and stolen a quantity of alcohol.

It is also believed the same vehicles was used in a criminal damage incident at a business on Mitchell Street overnight and two further unlawful entries as businesses in Eaton and Jingili.

Strike Force Trident, The Dog Operations Unit and General Duties deployed and began tracking the vehicle.

At 7:30am, police apprehended the Ranger without incident in Malak and arrested 3 males who remain in custody.

A short time later police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the Hyundai on Dick Ward Drive, with it coming to a stop in Ludmilla and one male being arrested at the scene.

Another male, believed to be involved in the offending, was arrested without incident in Millner.

Detective Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “This was an excellent coordinated effort from NT Police to apprehend these 5 alleged offenders in such a short time after the initial incident was reported.

“Detectives are still investigating the theft and damages and continue to urge anyone with information to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference 2400006665.”
