Police Officer Injured After Moana Pursuit

A police officer has been injured and a man arrested following a pursuit at Moana overnight.

About 12.40am on Monday 19 October, police spotted a Ford sedan travelling on Commercial Road, Moana, without its headlights activated. When patrols indicated for the driver to stop, he failed to comply and continued travelling south.

The vehicle was pursued for approximately 4km before the driver stopped and fled on foot with his two dogs along Broadbeach Drive.

Police chased the man and located him hiding in nearby bushes. During the arrest, one of the man’s dogs bit an officer on the leg, causing minor injuries.

A subsequent search of the man and his vehicle allegedly uncovered two knives, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and stolen number plates. Officers also discovered that the vehicle had false and unassigned registration plates fitted.

The 42-year-old man from Myponga was charged with several offences, including dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, driving while disqualified, carrying an offensive weapon and unlawful possession.

He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 12 November.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

The dogs were collected by the arrested man’s relatives.
