A 53-year-old Detective Sergeant from the South Eastern Police Region has been served with a notice to appear for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.
It will be alleged the officer was driving his private motor vehicle at the time.
He is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court.
At this time, the matter is being considered by the Ethical Standards Command for investigation.
