Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Mareeba

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Mareeba this morning (July 28).

Initial investigations indicate around 6.15am, two four-wheel-drives travelling in opposite directions collided on the Kennedy Highway just north of the Gallo Drive intersection.

The 39-year-old Tinaroo woman who was the driver and sole occupant of one vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.

The 56-year-old male driver of the other vehicle from Mareeba was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic diversions were in place throughout the day.
