Police responding to serious traffic crash at Condon

Police have arrested three people following a crash involving an alleged stolen vehicle in Townsville this morning.

It will be alleged a white Mitsubishi Pajero stolen from a Gulliver address was observed just before 10am being driven along Beck Drive in Condon.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed by police however the vehicle continued, colliding head-on with a white Hyundai i30 hatchback being driven by a learner driver.

The 19-year-old woman who was driving the Hyundai and the 31-year-old male driving instructor were not seriously injured.

Three males allegedly fled the stolen vehicle into nearby bushland and were taken into custody shortly afterwards.

Police will allege a 25-year-old man and two boys aged 17 and 15 were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The 25-year-old Heatley man and two teenagers have each been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary and commit an indictable offence.

The man is expected to front the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow and the juveniles are due to appear in the Townsville Children’s Court this month.

The 25-year-old man and the 17-year-old-boy have been denied police bail.

Investigations are continuing.
