Police search for Benjamin McCartin after Melbourne CBD death

Homicide Squad detectives are searching for Benjamin McCartin following the death of a man in the Melbourne CBD last weekend.

Police were initially called to a group of people fighting on King Street just after 9.30pm on Saturday, 10 October.

When police arrived, a 46-year-old Carlton man was located with serious injuries and was transported to hospital where he later died.

A 43-year-old Melbourne woman was arrested and charged with one count each of murder and affray.

She later faced Melbourne Magistrates Court where she was remanded in custody.

A 42-year-old Melbourne man was located several hours later around 3am on 11 October following a fall at a King Street hotel.

It’s understood this man was also involved in the earlier fatal incident.

He was subsequently conveyed to hospital, where he remains under police guard.

It is believed all parties involved in the fatal incident are known to one other.

Police are continuing to search for a third person, Benjamin McCartin, following this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The 40-year-old currently has no fixed place of address but has recently been staying in the Melbourne CBD and is known to frequent the inner city suburbs.

Detectives have today released an two images of McCartin in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information about his current whereabouts.

Anyone who sights McCartin is asked not to approach him and to contact triple zero (000) immediately.
