Police search for driver after car and tram collide in St Kilda

Police are investigating a collision between a vehicle and tram in St Kilda this afternoon.

It is understood a black Hyundai ix35 travelling inbound along St Kilda Road performed a right-hand turn through a red arrow when it collided with a tram travelling inbound near Alma Street about 1.30pm.

Nobody in the tram was injured in the collision, however the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle left the scene before emergency services arrived.

Police are appealing for the male driver to come forward, as they believe he may have been seriously injured in the collision and will need medical attention.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
