Police search for man after firearm produced at police in Cranebrook

Police are appealing for information after a firearm was allegedly produced at police in Sydney’s west today.

About 12.15pm (Tuesday 27 May 2021), officers from Nepean Police Area Command were in Carpenter Street, Colyton, for an unrelated matter when they attempted to speak with the male driver and female passenger of a Nissan Dualis SUV.

During the interaction, it’s alleged the driver produced a firearm towards police. Officers attempted to smash the driver’s side window before the vehicle drove from the scene.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle unattended on Hanlan Street, Cranebrook. Checks revealed it had been stolen from Victoria last week.

Police patrolling the area located the man and woman on Soling Crescent.

After a short foot pursuit, a 22-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.

The man was seen running into bushland and a search of the surrounding area commenced involving officers from Nepean Police Area Command, assisted by specialist units including the Dog Unit, PolAir, the Public Order and Riot Squad and tactical police.

Following an extensive search, the man was not located.

Inquiries are continuing.
