Police seek information after attempted armed robbery in South Maitland

Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery in the lower Hunter Region overnight.

Just before 1.40am (Saturday 27 August 2022), police were called to a service station on Darcey Drive, South Maitland, following reports of an attempted armed robbery.

On arrival, officers were told an unknown male – allegedly armed with a large knife – had forced entry into the service station, before threatening the attendee inside and attempting to open the cash register.

He was unsuccessful and fled the scene on foot in the direction of Cross Street.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall, and of large build. His face was concealed with a red balaclava or bandana.

He was wearing a hooded jumper with a red, white and blue logo, denim-look chinos, new balance white sneakers and white gloves. The knife had a distinctive yellow handle.

As inquiries continue police are urging anyone who may have information to come forward.
