Police are appealing for public assistance in relation to an historical missing person case.
Donald Gordon Buckley was last seen by family members at his Warwick Farm home in 1953.
There was some minor correspondence from Mr Buckley the following year in 1954 which suddenly ceased and there has been no further contact since.
At the time of his disappearance, he was about 24 years old and was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 175cm tall, thin build, short brown hair and brown eyes.
Mr Buckley was employed as a labourer and at the time and was married with two sons aged two and four respectively and a baby daughter.
He was known to frequent the Glenfield area.
It was not until earlier this year that a family member reported him as missing to Blacktown Police Station.
Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command commenced an investigation where extensive inquiries have failed to locate any trace of Mr Buckley since 1954.
Crime Manager of Blacktown Police Area Command, Inspector Jason Pietruszka, said police were desperate to obtain any information about Mr Buckley.
“Despite the passage of time we are very keen to find out what happened to Mr Buckley,” Inspector Pietruszka said.
“There is no doubt that this is an unusual set of circumstances in that the missing person report wasn’t lodged until 70 years after he was last seen but that doesn’t prevent us from investigating this matter.”
“It appears there may have been some marital problems which prompted him to leave the family home.”
“If Mr Buckley is still alive – which is not out of the realms of possibility – he would be in his mid-90’s now,” Inspector Pietruszka said.
