Police seek information on Assaults in Darwin City

Northern Territory Police are calling for anyone with information relating to an incident at a Darwin city supermarket on 7 December to come forward.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said, “Just before 3pm yesterday, police were called to the supermarket after multiple reports of rock throwing in the shopping centre on Smith St.

“It appears three youths had been involved in an alleged assault on a 32-year-old adult in the car park. This has then escalated and the youths allegedly armed themselves with rocks and began smashing windows of cars and shops. A man who intervened was then himself struck by rocks, as were other shoppers.”

To date, police have identified three victims of assault, three victims whose cars were damaged and two businesses that received property damage during this incident.

A 17-year-old youth was arrested at the scene. Two 16-year-old males remain outstanding.

“This kind of behaviour is completely appalling and put many innocent people, including children, at risk,” Superintendent Shean said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference number 9502874.
