Police seek witnesses – Attempted Sexual Assault in Katherine

Northern Territory Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an attempted sexual assault of a female in Katherine last night.

Around 8.00pm, the woman was walking along the footpath on Riverbank Drive when an unknown male has approached her from behind and dragged her towards the riverbank.

The woman was able to get away from the man and seek assistance from police who were doing a patrol in the area.

A crime scene was declared and members from Katherine CIB and Crime Scene Examination Unit attended.

Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson urges anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

“The man is described as having dark skin, a scar under his right eyebrow and wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.”

“We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have CCTV from the area, to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 10029580.
