Police seek witnesses – Serious assault in Darwin

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses who filmed an assault incident on Mitchell Street in Darwin earlier this morning, to contact them.

Initial investigations indicate an assault involving multiple people occurred on Mitchell Street around 3am.

One of the men from this assault has gotten into a vehicle and driven it at a group of people. The vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck one man, before hitting the entrance of a licensed premise.

The licensed premises was closed at the time.

Both the driver and the man were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital with unknown injuries.

A section of Mitchell Street has been cordoned off with the area of Knuckey Street to Peel Street closed to motorists and pedestrians, while detectives from Serious Crime process the scene.

Motorists are advised a traffic diversion between Peel and Nuttal Street is in place.

Police urge anyone who filmed the assault incident, or who has information which may assist with investigations, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
