Police seek witnesses to aggravated assault in Alice Springs 22 March

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an incident in which a man was attacked outside a licensed premises in Alice Springs yesterday.

At 5:40pm staff members removed an intoxicated man from a licensed venue on Undoolya Road. It is alleged the man caused a disturbance before leaving the scene and returning armed with a star picket and chased a staff member.

A patron inside the venue attempted to call police when it is alleged the man grabbed the phone from him and smashed it and a nearby computer before throwing a star picket at him.

The staff member managed to apprehend and escort the man out the front of the venue where another disturbance occurred and the patron and staff member being assaulted.

Four unknown men are alleged to have joined the altercation with one of the men kicking the 63-year-old staff member before stomping on his head.

The four unknown men are further alleged to have continued to assault the staff member and a patron before throwing items at the front of the building and leaving the area.

The 63-year-old man was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment to injuries received as a result of the incident.

Police are calling for anyone with dash-cam who was travelling in the area of Undoolya Road between 5:40 and 6pm, to contact the on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS 9957086.
