Police seek witnesses to assault at Casuarina

Serious Crime Detectives are calling for witnesses in relation to two alleged assaults which occurred on Wednesday 17 July 2019.

A 42-year-old male and 35-year-old female were seriously injured following a disturbance on Casuarina Beach near the nudist beach boardwalk around midnight.

The pair were camping with friends when a woman arrived and began arguing with the group around 5:00pm. The woman left the location only to return later with unidentified persons who allegedly assaulted the two victims. The male victim was punched to the face and struck with a burning piece of wood, rendering him unconscious. As a result of the assault, the male received burns to his neck, back, upper body and right foot. He later walked to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The female also sustained burns to her shoulders and back area after she was allegedly pushed into the camp fire. She was later admitted to Royal Darwin Hospital and underwent surgery due to the seriousness of the burns.
