Greensborough Highway Patrol officers are appealing for witnesses and dash cam vision following a crash at Eltham North last week.
The incident happened on Allendale Road when the driver of a dark-coloured Ford Falcon left the road and crashed into a tree about 8pm on Wednesday 30 September.
The driver, a 39-year-old Eltham man, sustained critical injuries in the crash.
Investigators are keen to speak to the driver of a light-coloured vehicle who was seen in the vicinity at the time of the crash.
