Police are sending a warning to anyone who may be in possession of a dangerous medication stolen during a theft.
The medication, known as Pentobarbital, could have a lethal effect if ingested.
Police are asking for the bagged item to be returned immediately given the risk.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greaves, Auckland City CIB, says the medication, provided by a vet, was inside a handbag which was stolen from a vehicle parked on Athlone Road, Glendowie overnight on Wednesday 16 September.
“The medication is in liquid form and was inside a pink handbag.
“It’s likely the person has mistakenly taken the medication without knowing it was inside the bag, and we are asking for it to be handed in as soon as possible.”
Detective Senior Sergeant Greaves says Police have carried out a number of enquiries, which have so far been unsuccessful.
“Police are actively investigating this matter and treating it as a priority.
“Our main concern is that the person who took this item, or potentially gives it to someone else, does not know what they are in possession of.
“If you have information on where the bag, or the medication is, we need to hear from you to ensure it is safely retrieved.”
